Hmmm....not sure that's true. We could have avatars when I first joined up (before paid membership options). I thought the paid membership only gave you the option to have a bigger avatar.

Go up top and click on "Control Panel", then "Edit Avatar". If there you have the option "custom avatar", then you can upload your own.

I'll be danged....I never realized that. I just assumed that since I had an avatar before I upgraded, everyone still had the option.
