That's with the higher alcoholic content. To me that's a clearer sign than anything that homebrewed beer has more stuff in it to help you process the alcohol you're consuming and ward off its ill effects on your bodily functions.
Are you sure its not just you drinking less of it?

Getting drunk on an 8% beer may be easier on your body simply because you're not consuming gallons of sugary liquid like with a 3.5% beer.

synovia, you're assuming that he would be drinking 3.5% commercial beer..

i doubt that's the case, i would assume the commercial beers he's drinking and getting hangovers are craft brews, which are equivalent abv to homebrews...

even if he is drinking bud light that is still 4+%, similar to many home brews.

He specifically mentioned 'the additives in mass brewed beer', so I don't think he was talking craft brew.

Still, I think its psychological.

I've heard others say this too. The hangovers are definitely less severe with homebrew.

I read/heard that the navy used to inject Vitamin B shots into sailors before hitting port to help them with the inevitable hangover.

Since yeast is full of Vitamin B, you could easily draw a conclusion here.

Commercial beer is filtered to remove the yeast. Eat your yeast, it's good for you!

I don't have any issues with this conclusion, although I'm sure you can drink enough homebrew to counteract any positive effects of the Vit. B from the yeast and still get a hangover (ask me how I know!).

The original "controversy" was over a statement made that homebrew is better for you than commercial beer nutritionally and you could actually lose weight by drinking homebrew because of the lack of additives and extra Vit. B.

I do need to point out the fault in logic here and then I'll shut up....just because homebrew might not give you as bad of a hangover compared to an equivalent amount of commercial beer (for whatever reason), it does not mean that homebrew is necessarily better for you nutritionally. Sad to say, but homebrew is made of the same stuff that commercial beer is and is quite similar nutritionally.

I do not want to know the calorie count, i didn't even even read any of the replies in this thread. The less i know the better!!!

I do however have a rule, i have to run at least a few miles (about 25 minutes) on a day that i am going to be consuming a larger than normal quantity. Which isn't a big deal since i run almost every day anyway but if i don't run then i don't get to drink. It's a fairly effective strategy and an easy way to keep the belly from bulging.

Don't let a strong opinion be swayed by the facts.

Calories in vs calories out is what matters for weight loss/gain. End of story.
