Default Hop timing

All,

I had a random thought today. Let's say I have two different types of hops (made up numbers):

5% AAU
10% AAU

Which would bitter more at the following levels?

5% AAU = 60 minutes
10% AAU = 30 minutes

I ask because I just did a porter and it came out a little more bitter than I wanted and I used a low aau hop (I believe it was Fuggle at around 5.5%).

With the above boil times, would they bitter the same since you're using an AAU double the first one, but for half the time?

Thanks!

There's more to bitterness than the AAUs . Some hops are harsher than others and will taste more bitter than others. There are other factors that influence perceived bitterness as well. If you used the same hops and the same wert in both examples, the 10 AAUs boiled for 30 minutes would yield about 1 1/2 times as much bitterness than the 5 AAUs boiled for 60 minutes.
