Default homebrewing illegal in Alabama

I just saw this article - http://www.fermentarium.com/content/view/189/56/

I thought Carter made it legal back in the 70's ...

Guess I won't be moving to Alabama ..

Are there any other states where it is illegal ??

The federal government made it legal, but each state can regulate it. Mississippi, Kentucky, Utah

Yeah what a bunch of crap. I would do it anyway in protest of unjust laws.

I have heard that there are still home brew shops in those states though. Any confirmation on this?

yes there are. Not illegal to sell the equipment and supplies, but illegal to brew.

There was an attempted bill in the Utah legislature ths year to legalize homebrewing but it didn't make it. Nonetheless, there are two LHBS in Salt Lake and one in Ogden that I am aware of. The Salt Lake shops have been around since before my first homebrewing experience in the late 80s.
