Default Galena A Suitable Substitution for Simcoe?

Sounds about right as far as the Alphas and the Characteristics are concerned. If not, what would be better?

Using it in an Imperial IPA for Bittering and Dry Hops.

In my opinion, there is really no substitute for Simcoe - it is in a class of its own.

Although high AA%, I have found Galena to be rather neutral for the times I've used it.

This really is the truth, I haven't found another hop like Simcoe.

Sucks, but I can't find Simcoe ANYWHERE. Going with Horizon.

Horizon should work fine, it's just that Simcoe has such a distinct flavor. DFH calls it their secret ingredient for the 60 minute IPA.

I recently planned a beer with simcoe and NB didn't have it so I subsituted Newport.

Quote:
Typical alpha: 12.0-14.0%. Very new, super-high alpha hop with an earthy, slightly resinous aroma—sometimes described as "new mown hay."
Galena is supposed to be citrusy, right? Simcoe is piny isn't it? edit: never mind, apparently it is also citrusy. Glad I went with the Newport then, it sounds more like what I had in mind.
