I visited this brewery this past weekend with my girlfriend and her parents. We ordered two of the sampling lines. They currently have 5 brews available.

1) A basic beer like Miller Lite

2) A basic Wheat beer

3) A banana Clove ale

4) A citrus IPA (galena and cascade hops)

5) An Oatmeal Stout

Currently, in my opinion, this brewery has a lot of room for improvement. The service was terrible and there wasn't much to it. The beers were mediocre also. The only beer that is worthy of a 7 on a scale of 1-10 is the IPA. The others rank below a 5. I would hold off visiting this brewery for a while, unless you like low quality microbrew.

By the way, I love Galena. I am not knocking the town! :mug:

I would suggest visiting Carlyle Brewing Company in Rockford.
You'd love the ambiance and the brew line-up is pretty solid.

Carlyle is nice. I've been there once since it is 5 minutes or so from my house. I haven't been able to go back because of their hours conflicting with my work schedule. I love their IPAIPA. Genius. :mug:

Whats the name of the brewery?

WOW! I grew up 45 miles from Galena and was just there at the begining of August. Somehow this slipped under my radar and I did not check it out. Guess I was too busy getting to New Glarus and Milwaukee for beer porn.

Galena Brewing Co. is the name and their slogan is "Brewing is our middle name"

I'm not saying they show no sign of hope either! As a home brewer I believe it has potential. The nice thing about the brewery is they give you a bit of history about past breweries in Galena and how they vanished.

They can make beer. Alright. They just need more time to come up with better recipes.:mug:

Went to Galena in July and the brewery was not open yet, so they are still getting on their feet. Hope they get better as I am looking forward to going there next year when we go back to Galena.

I love Galena, been there a few times (did a history and "Field of Dreams" trip) and didnt realize they had a brewery... cool :)

When you go try their sampling line. It's reasonably priced for 5 samples. Then again they might have more selections when you guys go there.

They were probably just starting to figure out their system. Might want to give them another shot in a little while. If they still suck, post it here so we all know what to expect should we be in the area.

Right. I was merely saying if anyone loves the area it's a bit early to fall in love with a brew at this time. I'm willing to give them another chance since my girlfriend and I travel there often. Plus you always have Star over the border in Dubuque.:mug:
