The easy/cheap way is just ferment in a metal pot, as LandoLincoln pointed out. Plenty of people do it, and it works fine. You don't even really need an airtight seal on the lid, you could even just cover it with foil.

It doesn't really cost much more than a pot, but it's already outfitted with two threaded ports and an airlock bung. I added a $12 thermowell for temperature control, and will probably add a racking valve soon to the other port.
Oh yeah, and it can be used as a brew kettle too, if you want.
These caverns are awesome! I happen to have a 6gal 7gal and a 10 gal of these caverns. They are easy to move around and clean. They cost less than the SS brew bucket.
