It's easy to pick on dark beers because generally darker beers are stronger in malt-associated flavors. I suppose many people who tell me they don't like "dark beers" would also not care for an English barleywine... but who could know for sure?

And this! times 2 for the "use the right words!" part. A liquor store is exactly the place to learn about these things. Or heck, just look at what you can learn from a simple Google search.

I have the most success telling people that dark beers are like coffee.

It works, but they are still f*kking racists.

Really though, I get the impression that people think if it ain't yellow it ain't really beer. It's some concoction that a home brewer makes because the can't make the real thing.

Now after they taste it they may change their minds.
