Does anyone know of any place to get really cool (inexpensive) tap handles?

Yup...DIY.
The surfboard is made out of a 1x8 piece of pine that I cut out and used a rasp to get the lines. The Red Wings one I made out of a stair spindle from HD and another piece of 1x8.
You can get really creative....or there are people on here that make more professional ones that they will sell you. Mine cost me about $4 and a couple hours of fun.

Another popular choice seems to be gear shift knobs. If you search for DIY tap handles there is a thread that MASSIVE that covers it...

Not much in the "cheap" range, but: http://www.samssteins.com/Beer-Tap-Handles-C539.aspx
Just got a SF Giants handle last night from them--couldn't find another like it anywhere online.

I got a piece of moose antler and drilled it out for an insert. Friend-pleaser.
