Neighbor just turned me on to this Bear Republics Racer 5. This is a beer that makes me think about it when I am not drinking it. It is that good. Very hoppy but light a little sweet. From the website:
Racer 5 - This is a hoppy IPA. Did I say hops? Your brewer is a hop head! This is a full bodied beer using American grains. The goal was to create a base for showing off the unique floral qualities of two Pacific Northwest hops, Columbus and Cascade. Columbus is a new hybrid High Alpha Acid hop used mostly for bittering, but used heavily as an aromatic in this strong brew. Cascade is the balance that ties the malt and bittering hops together. It is a true specialty ale and is our brewer's statement on this style. 2004 L.A. Commercial Brewing Competition, Silver Medal Winner; 2004 World Beer Cup, Silver Medal Winner; 2001 Real Ale Festival, San Diego, Gold Medal Winner; 2001 Real Ale Festival, Chicago, Gold Medal Winner; 1999 Great Amercian Beer Festival, Gold Medal Winner - og 1.070, ABV 7.0%, IBU 69. California State Fair Bronze Medal, 1997 Beerfest Invitational. - og 1.070, ABV 7.0%, IBU 69.

Mmmmm......Bear Republic. We can't get it here in the sticks, but I go to Cali a few times a year on business. I'm going next week and plan on loading up the suitcase with Hop Rod Rye.

And if you are really lucky, they'll have some Racer X on tap. You can also get these really nice one gallon beer boxes there. The only problem is, you have to buy a gallon of beer to get one. Dang!

Hehe...red rocket...every time I see that, I think of the Southpark episode. Red Rocket, Sparky, Red Rocket!
The stout is great stuff too.

This is one of my all time favorite beers I love it! I can't wait to make it myself sometime...
I found a clone recipe in the BYO 150 Clone Recipe's magazine.
Quote:
Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA
5 Gallons
OG = 1.071 / FG = 1.015
IBU = 60, SRM = 10, ABV = 7.2%
11.25lbs 2-Row pale malt
1.66lbs wheat malt
0.625lbs Crystal Malt (15deg L)
0.42lbs Dextrose
0.21lbs Carapils Malt
6.1AAU Chinook Hops (90 Minutes)
(0.51 oz of 12% aa)
8.7AAU Cascade Hops (60 minutes)
(1.74 oz of 5.0% aa)
0.3oz Centennial hops (dry hop)
0.3oz Amarillo hops (dry hop)
0.2oz Cascade hops (dry hop)
0.2oz Tomahawk hops (dry hop)
Wyeast 1272 American Ale II / White Labs WLP051 Yeast
0.75cups corn sugar for priming.
Mash in 145F then ramp tempreature to 152f for conversion. Mash out to 170f. Boil for 90 minutes, adding hops at times indicated. Ferment at 68f.
Extract version: Replace pale malt with 6.0lbs dried malt extract and 0.33lbs 2-row malt. Steeped crush grains in 1 gallon of water at 152f for 45 minutes.
