Default Aging beer in a whisky barrel

Has anyone ever done it? I found these five gallon barrels and I want to see how this works. If I do this is there a way to sanitize the barrel and reuse it for future brews?

Is the barrel still wet? If so, it's likely sanitary as it is. If it didn't come with a small amount of whiskey in it I would buy a fifth of the highest proof neutral grain alcohol available to you and slosh that around, pour it out, and add your beer back in.

Can't you just use Star-San?

No idea on if the barrel is still wet. I've read that the small volume will impart the oak and bourbon flavor quicker though so that's good

I wouldn't. You are supposed to let Star-San dry which would not be possible on the porous wood. There is a (commercial?) process of burning sulfur sticks in the barrel to sanitize.

I have an 8 gallon barrel from http://stores.intuitwebsites.com/TuthilltownSpirits/-strse-Barrels/Categories.bok which I have infected with my sour belgian brown. If you plan on leaving it for a long term such as I am, brew a high gravity beer because you dont want the flavor of the barrel to become overpowering.
