Product Information

MSRP: $80.00
Average Price: $13.38
Manufacturer: Fermtech
Recommended?
Yes: 52 / No: 2

One stroke of the racking cane/piston assembly will start a siphon when immersed in as little as six inches of beer or wine; less than six inches may require a second stroke. Includes a removeable diverter piece (essentially a big racking tube tip) to minimize sediment pickup.
Plastic; can be disassembled for cleaning and sanitizing.

Pros: Wonderful item, works great.
Cons: Certain brewing sanitizers will craze (micro-crack) the plastic. Can lose its seal over time.

Price: $14.99
Pros: Easy to use
Cons: Tough to clean/dry out
Recommended? Yes

Comments: I started out without the Autosiphon, and after I bought one I couldn't believe how easy it was to use. One or two pumps and my siphon was flowing. The only downside I've found so far is that it is tough to dry after cleaning. I let it sit for a few days, but it was still somewhat wet. All in all, however, I would recommend this product.

Pros: Makes it easy to start a siphon.
Cons: A siphon isn't that hard to start.
Recommended? No

Comments: I found the Autosiphon difficult to keep clean, and easy to break. Making a T-siphon as described in this post http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f11/flyguys-t-siphon-3-replacement-autosiphon-25774/

Price: $15.00
Pros: no more fiddling to get siphon started. more sanitary to restart a lost siphon
Cons: leaves a bit more liquid in container...wont siphone down as low
Recommended? Yes

Comments: How did I live/brew without one of these? Getting a siphon started and keeping it going was a bain sometimes...with this thing, its just a few pumps and its going. if I lose siphon for some reason, its just a quick to start back up. If you arent using one, you're working too hard.

Price: $7.75
Pros: It pumps and will start a siphon.
Cons: I thought the siphon was sucking air, but the "problem" was the carbonation of my cider. The bottom valve does leak and renders the siphon useless to use with a hydrometer.

Price: $12.99
Pros: Makes racking a breeze! Easy to sterilize, easy to use
Cons: None.
Recommended? Yes

Comments: Really takes the hassle out of racking. Has a small plastic "filter" on the bottom of the cane which helps to keep out some trub and trash, which is removable for full cleaning. A couple quick pumps and boom you're done! They come in a couple sizes, one for large carboys and another for smaller fermenters. The above price (12.99) is for the smaller one. It still does the job well, though the larger one actually takes fewer pumps to get started, and obviously transfers more fluids in the same amount of time.

Price: $10.00
Pros: Saves much of the hassle of siphoning
Cons: Little too large to fit into my 1 gallon glass fermenters
Recommended? Yes

Comments: This saves sooo much time trying to get a good siphon, plus the fear of sanitation with typical siphoning techniques. It has a little piece on the bottom so it won't suck up trub (though you still don't want to just sit it in the stuff) and works like a charm.

Price: $12.00
Pros: Easy, intuitive design, greatly reduces siphon messes
Cons: More surfaces to infect
Recommended? Yes

Comments: After starting siphons the old way, this product made life a lot simpler. Now I don't have soda/beer running all over the place making a huge mess. It's simple and hugely useful for bottling/transferring to secondary.

Price: $12.00
Pros: simple to use after spraying star san on, no more blowing into my carboy cap and spray germs on my precious brew, use to siphon from kettle, keg, 6 gal carboy, 1 gal jug!
Cons: none
Recommended? Yes

Comments: I'd put this product side by side with my star san interms of "take anything you want from my brew equipment, but leave these!"

I don't want to live in a world without an autosiphon every again.

Price: $8.00
Pros: Cheap, comes in different sizes to fit either small growler or carboy, long
Cons: heat sensitive, melts easily, becomes cracked with use
Recommended? Yes

Comments: works well. Make sure you use cold water or you will accelerate the cracking. After some time it will become warped and will not work properly.

Price: $8.00
Pros: Easiest to start a siphon. Most sanitary siphon. Can sterilize the odd shape easily by pumping solution from a bowl onto it and back into the bowl. Large anti-sediment tip.
Cons: Plastic. Mine is showing many, many hairline cracks and looking like it is about to disintegrate. Beer gets stuck above the sliding cane. When siphon is just about done it gargles and splashes the last bit of beer around oxygenating it.
Recommended? Yes

Comments: Check out the pro and cons lists.

Fermtech Autosiphon
Pros: it works! easy!
Recommended? Yes

Comments: Mine works great but as I've had it for quite some time, it does not seal up as well on the bottom any more, so it makes for very drippy wine thief action. But I never have to suck on a tube, and I can use it to run sanitizer through other lines. I also get much less trub than I did with a normal racking cane. I sometimes hook the end of its tube to a corny disconnect and rack in to kegs with it.
