Default Yeast starter noob

Does John Palmer's method from How to Brew work? It seems like it would work really well but I am hesitant because of how long he says to make it before you brew.

Works but you don't need to be that anal about timing. For optimum results sure but I make mine a couple days ahead of time and it helps a lot.
