Default Yeast starter with LME?

Ive never done a starter before and Im planning to do my first this weekend. However, Im using LME in my recipe and am wondering if I should buy some additional DME for my starter. Does it really matter besides the fact that I should use more LME if I decide to use it instead?

DME is a lot easier to work with.

DME is easier to measure, but LME will certainly work just as well.

I was also wondering if I should plan on buying some extra extract or if I should just take whatever I need out of the original recipe...

Don't take out of the original recipe. That's stealing from your precious batch. Just make up a separate starter using DME. Buy a bigger bag and it will last you 2-3 starters, but won't cost much. Just decant the liquid off the yeast before pitching and you're good to go.

When I use Wye yeast, I make a starter using LME. If I brew on saturday, I usually do this on thursday evening.

Here is what I do:
2 tablespoons of LME
2 cups of water
6 hop granules

In a sauce pan bring water to boil. Remove from heat and add LME and hops. Put back on stove and bring back to boil. Remove from heat again and allow to cool.
When cool pour mixture into sanatized 22 oz beer bottle, and add yeast. Shake vigorously. Cap bottle with aluminum foil, but not too tight. Shake occasionally to areate starter.

you're better off not using hops in your starters, the same property that makes hops work as antimicrobials and help them preserve beer (the resins stick to cell membranes) means that they inhibit the yeast as well (obviously not enough to shut them down entirely, but they do slow them down and there's no real benefit to having hops in the starter)
