Default Yeast starter with corn sugar and nutrient?

Hi All,

I tried mashing some 2-row last week and bottling it, but picked up an infection in all 8 bottles I made (damn).

I don't have a decent source for DME (yet).

Can I make a starter with corn sugar and yeast nutrient, or am I setting up my yeasties for failure?

Thanks,
jkpq45

Default

You really want a starter with complex sugars (Maltose) because that is what they will be processing in the wert.

If you cannot make a starter, can you get a pitchable wet yeast? I am guessing if you cannto get DME, you will have a hard time getting a liquid yeast too...

If you are using dry, you can always pitch a second packet of yeast.
