Default Use of gypsum

I have always used gypsum in my mash water because I have been told I should. My beers usually turn out pretty good. I use spring water from the store for my brewing. If I am using store bought spring water is gypsum really necessary?

Check out the brew science area in the main forum page. Click on the "water primer" sticky. You'll be enamored!
