Default Toasting Crushed malt

I just ordered ingredients for Dude's Fat Tire clone where you toast 2 lbs of the Pale malt.
Well, I have them precrush it since I don't have a mill. Can you toast precrushed malt? Or should I just forget it and brew and drink what I get?

I haven't tried it, but don't see any reason why you couldn't. I've toasted flaked grains. It would probably toast much faster, smaller bits & mostly not insulated by the husks.

I have only toasted uncrushed grain. I would think you may gelatinize the starches in the barley too much and it would be difficult for the enzymes to convert it. You may also get more color addition.
I wouldn't toast, just infuse and go.

I'm hoping you can, I'm planning on toasting a half pound of crushed 2-row for my Irish Red, I figured I'd just toast at 300 degrees and monitor carefully

Best practice is toasting whole grains.

I understand this, but it's not an option for me at this time.
I will just ommit the toast and have a lighter colored beer. WIll this non-toasted 2lbs affect the taste very much or just color?
it's 2 of 10 lbs base.
