Default Steam mashing rocks !

As someone said earlier today, steam mashing rocks.

I'd like this thread to be a collection of knowledge about the equipment/ process.

At least 4 of us have now steam mashed with a pressure vessel (pressure canner or corny) and a cooler. (Flyguy, Yuri, Cookiebaggs and me.)

We've all reported it to work well. The only thing is you need to stir the mash while adding heat or you will get hot spots.

Here are flyguys posts on steam mashing.

Here is a question I have for the steam mashers. Do your beers taste different because of steam mashing.

I didn't brew for 7 years. However, I swear that my steam mashed beers taste way better (cleaner, brighter) than my beers used to. As far as I can tell, I do everything the same. I suspect it has something to do with the mash sitting undisturbed versus being constantly pumped like it used to be with my HERM system.

Anyway, I am very happy with both the mash process and how well my beers have turned out taste wise.

Steam mashing rocks.
