Currently I extract brew with 3 gallons of water in the kettle and 3 gallons in the primary and then combine them after the wort cools. With a 2.5 gallon batch should I boil with 1.5 gallons and combine with 1.5 gallons of water? How does that scale with 1 gallon batches?

Thanks for the help!
