Default Oaked IPA

Is one ounce of medium toasted oak chips a good amount for a 5 gallon batch of IPA?.....I want it to be noticeable but not overwhelming......I was also thinking about soaking the oak chips in red wine for a couple days.....Any suggestions?

One ounce might be about right, depending on how much oak character you want. I probably wouldn't soak them in red wine, as I don't think I'd like that flavor. But I'd definitely like them soaked in brandy or bourbon!

I second the red wine, I'd rather have a bourbon IPA in my opinion but to each their own.

One oz for a week or so would be ideal. My first oaked beer I did 4 oz's for 2 weeks. Not bad if you enjoy chewing on oak chips.
