Has anyone ever brewed in an oak barrel? I was thinking if I could find one for cheap that I would try it out.

I can't think of anyone who has actually used a barrel for primary, but their are a few who have used a barrel for secondary and addition of special bacteria, etc....

The only use of oak barrels (for beer) I've seen is aging, though wood fermenters were common before large scale metal-working was possible.

Finding a small oak barrel will be difficult, finding one cheap; just about impossible.

Oak barrels - Whiskey barrels - Wine barrels - Wine making supplies -Beer making has them in 5 gal sizes but they are not cheap. Oak Barrel Experiment has a good blog entry on brewing with one.
