So, I just made my first starter. I used Mr. Malty's pitching calculator which called for 110 grams of DME into 1100mL water. I cooked the wort according to directions, cooled it, put it into a flask, and added liquid yeast. I just noticed that I only have about 600mL of starter. Crap. This seems very low to me, which makes me worried that my starter OG is too high. Should I boil some more water, cool it, and top up the starter?

Take a gravity reading. Either way you shouldn't ever make starters smaller than 1L unless you are growing something up from a slant cause there isn't enough sugar for the yeast to grow much before running out of food. So add another 400ml of water, take a gravity reading and if it's below 1.020 add more DME to get it around 1.030-1.040.
