Keg Dry Hop - Procedures?
|
|
How do you dry hop in a keg? 1st time at it. I was thinking of just using a hop sock tied with some fishing line and have the other end come out the top cover of the cornie?

I listened to the beer network podcast and they suggested using waxed dental floss tied to a muslin, steeping bag through the keg lid. They said the keg sealed and made it easy to remove.
I haven't tried but plan to soon.

I woulds use unscented dental floss, that is what I used in the past with no problems and it allows the lid of the corny to seal properly. Definatly use a bag though or else you are asking for a clogged pick up tube. I would use some thing like sanitized marbles or SS washer to help keep the hop bag submerged. I found that it really helps with bringing out the aroma.
Cheers
Edit: Dang not quick enough

or just drop it in and leave it there until the keg is empty. I've done it and there is no problem.

Yep, the flat dental floss works great. Thanks guys. Even had some unscented flat stuff I found in the house. (offically nabbed for the brewery now). Did forget the weight but whatever...
Bobby, I don't think this will get tapped for about 6 weeks so I'd rather yank it after two weeks.

Oh come on you have to leave it in there that way it gets stronger as the beer ages, it's like pulling a new beer every couple of days!

I used a large stainless herb ball for my IPA. I sanitized it first in Starsan, then added an ounce of Centennial, made sure I had a tight seal, and then I dropped it in the keg. I don't expect to get it back till the keg is empty.
