I'm looking for a Belgian Brewing book from 1851

The latest issue of Zymurgy included an article about the history of brewing with spices. I've found one of the old brewing books that was referenced.

I found the 1st book "The London and Country Brewer" (1763)

OR

They also referenced a Belgian book, "Traite Complet de la Fabrication des Bieres" by G. Lacambre 1851
I've managed to find a scanned version, but it is not in English.
http://books.google.com/books?id=0lFHAAAAYAAJ&printsec=frontcover&dq=trait e+complet+de+la+fabrication+des+bieres&source=bl&o ts=J09iTgx0FQ&sig=uE8bZ0UZKT3PqoqwMCXiHhvGdj4&hl=e n&ei=gD6NS-i5LY-mNvnQpG4&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ve d=0CAYQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=traite%20complet%20de%20 la%20fabrication%20des%20bieres&f=false

Does anyone know where I can find an English translation of the Belgian book?
Thanks

If it was something less than 700 pages, I could translate it for you. It's actually written in very simple language and sounds like it would be very easy to follow and very helpful.

700 pages is just too much for me to take on. Is there a certain section or chapter you're looking for, or you just want the whole book for your collection?

Wow
Thank You for even considering to translate the book. I agree that attempting to translate 700 pages would be ridiculous. I know very little about the book, so I have no idea which sections or parts I would be interested in having you translate. Thanks for the offer.

I would like to read to expand my knowledge and hopefully find a few gems.
The information I can find about the book indicated that it is relatively important and contains a lot of info about traditional Belgian brewing. I find it hard to believe that no one has translated it before. A hard copy would be very cool but I would be happy with a online version.

Looks like the book you found on Google is a different book than the one you're looking for (albeit one with the same title). The book you linked to is by Levy and Moreau, and was published in 1905.
Here's a link to the Lacambre book: link

I downloaded a PDF file of the book (kind of accidentally) from Google - if you want me to email it to you I can; PM me.

I've done some searching and it appears there's never been an English translation of the Lacambre book; sounds like a labour of love for some ambitious HBTer!

An original copy will set you back five-fiddy bones.

Man, too bad I don't read French. These books look like they could offer some great historical brewing information.

You're right, I did not even bother to check the authors name. That is disappointing that there has never been a translation. Thank you for the information.
I've emailed the author of the article responsible for this most recent quest, to see if he might shed any more light.

While researching this issue I have stumbled across this one sizable resource of historical brewing publications that I shall share.

All the links, so far, have been in English.

Prost & Enjoy :mug:
