I see that you use IBU in the Formula above. What methid is used to Calculate IBU? Rager Tinseth or another? Which is most used? Which is used when using the Gravity/Hops chart?

The method used to calculate IBU's depends on whetehr your are doing a full boil, starting with a greater amount and boiling down to you batch size or boiling and adding top up water.

For full boil use tinseth (you must calculate your boil down % for this). For top up method use Rager.

Denny,
At this point I Brew with Extract and Specialty Grains and I can only boil about 2.5 Gal then ad 2.5 gal of cold water to Primary.

Then use rager for your IBU calcs

this helped alot thanks guys. i like the chart as a place to start but i understand what ur saying. no one wants their beer dictated by a chart
