energizer question

Do you need to boil yeast energizer before adding it to your fermentor? I assumed you did, but when I did just a few minutes ago, it started smelling very strong like ammonia. I'm assuming I don't want that in my beer.
 
Energizers go in the boil. Duracell's can be added directly to the primary. :ban:

I did that a few weeks ago, I boiled the nutrients in 1.5 cups of water and added after it cooled... it wasn't a real pleasant smell, but not ammonia... after racking to secondary it smelled fine. Normally I add it with the Irish moss.
