Default Dry Hopping in Conical - Magnet and a Stir Bar?

I've got a fair amount of leaf hops I'd like to use up when I dry hop my next beer. The one thing I don't like about leaf hops is they never sink and using a weight like a glass marble seems to cause the bag to get in the way of the racking port on my conical.

That got me thinking of a solution. I could put my hops in a sanitized muslin bag and then add a large stir bar I have in the bag. Then with a strong magnet on the outside of the conical pull the bag down the inside and out the way.

Any reason not to try it?

Sounds like a good idea to me. Let us know if it works out.

Gave it a shot tonight. Instead of a stir bar I actually went with anoter magnet and used my vacuum sealer to seal it in. Unfortunately the magnets are just not quite strong enough to pull four ounces of dryhops that far down. Once they've saturated some I'll try again. I think if I do this in the future I'll get some really strong earth magnets off Ebay and give that a go. You can definitely tell when there is tension on the magnet and when they break free. Even with the conical sealed up the hops draw back to the side and catch the magnet.

Interesting idea none the less and I think it would work if I upped the strength.
