Default Cask conditioned Imperial Porter

Back in 12/10 I brewed a nice, big Imperial porter. I kegged it in January and just sampled it yesterday. It's aged wonderfully - you'd never know it ended up at 10.25% ABV.

Also back in December, I started aging spirits in a little 2L oak cask. Since I just emptied one of them, I decided to fill it up with the porter.

It's sitting on my bar aging in the barrel now. I'm planning to drink it straight from the cask. The rest of the keg went into the kegerator to carbonate, so we can do side-by-side taste tests

Sampled a shot of this last night. Ho-lee-crap is it good. The flavor is rich and complex, even after such a short time - it really picked up that spicy rye whiskey flavor, and has even taken a little of the oak and smoke flavors from the cask.

I am going to be very sad when this one is empty

-Joe
