Default Ascorbic Acid

I am about to brew my first ale. I am concerned about oxidation. Is this something to worry about, or does it happen infrequently? Is ascorbic acid necessary to use? What is recommended?
Thank you.

Oxidation only happens if the beer is exposed unnecessarily to oxygen, especially when racking. Since you ferment under airlock, and only open the beer to rack (and rack quietly, no splashing), no reason to worry about oxidation. I would never, ever put ascorbic acid or even sulfites in my beer. I think you'll be fine without any chemicals.

On the other hand, you'd have a fortified drink! Why not just throw a whole multivitamin in there and call it a health drink!

Oxidation is one of those thing that almost never happens unless you are really sloppy. And if you are really sloppy, you're more likely to get an infection.

Adding an anti-oxidant would probably do more damage than good. I certainly would never do it.
