Default Adding water to boil

I have a 5gal pot and want to add the least amount afterwards as possible so I thought why not keep adding a bit at a time while it's reducing in the boil to keep the volume up; therefore I won't be adding as much after. What are your thoughts?

That would work, as long as you don't stop the boil when you add water.

I don't see the difference between adding .5 gallon at the end vs. during the boil, but it shouldn't matter either way.

are you stove top brewing? If so just keep a 2nd pot at or near boiling to add from. Not sure if there is all that much advantage to adding water during the boil, would be interested in finding out. Might improve hops utilization a little?
