Default 5 gallon water jug carboy?

I was in lowes the other day and they sell 5 gallon water jugs for around 7 dollars. I got the idea to use them as a carboy because of their low price. Would there be any problems with this? They are made for storing/dispensing water so surely it'd be okay to use it for beer, right? Any feedback is appreciated.

There is a long thread on this if you search it. The bottom line is if the plastic carboy has a 1 or a 2 on the bottom then it is okay. Stay away from the 7's and other numbers.

Welcome to the site. There are many great teachers in this forum. I have learned alot since coming here.
