My water isn't quite as alkaline as yours, but it is hard and alkaline. I'm really happy with my water since I started mixing RO to tap water 2:1. (for 5gal batch, I use 5gal RO and 2.5gal tap) I add a little CaCl to get the calcium back in line, but it's fairly simple to do. Beer has been fantastic since I started that simple process. I use the local Glacier water (RO) machine around the corner from the house. 5 gal of RO is $1.75. Literally pocket change on brew day.

Damn, that's cheap. I haven't found a place that sells RO water that isn't already bottled. I dropped 8 bucks on 4 gallons of distilled water today for my brew day and I wasn't too happy doing so. Might have to pony up and buy a RO system if I cant find a RO water dispenser.

Aside, I finally (sorta) figured out how to use all the brewing water software (Bru'n Water, EZ calc...) and spent the last few days reading up on all the brewing chemistry. I am still a bit confused about mash acidity and the cations/anions ratios and whatnot.
