When I went to the store and look for pellet hops I was unable to find them instead they gave me whole leaf hops. I said I needed .5 ounces of pellet hops and the lady at the desk gave me 5 ounces of whole leaf hops is that conversion rate correct?

No. You need about 10% more leaf (whole) hops to get the same bitterness as in pellet hops but I often just sub one-for-one in late additions.
