Default Is it mold?

I went out of town while my last brew was in the secondary. When I got home, my wife mentioned that she thought she saw mold floating on top. Naturally, I ran as quickly as possible to make sure that she was wrong. There was no mold, however there was something that looked odd to me. On the bottom of the fermenter, there was a little brownish layer of yeast and then a much larger layer that was green. I have never seen the green layer before and have no idea what it could be, any help would be much appreciated!

Why is this in brew science? This section is for scientific discussions, not "is my beer ruined?" threads. FYI this is the egghead section where few of us mere mortal brewers fear to tread.

Anyway without pictures we cant tell you. But more than likely all you have is a mixture of trub and hops, especially if you dry hopped in secondary. The different layers is everything settling out. If you racked too soon, your beer may have even re-krausend which accounts for the stuff on top. But even if it is mold on top (which is rare), you can carefully rack under it, leaving the top inch or so behind, and the beer will be perfectly fine. I did it once and the beer below was great. But it more than likely isn't mold.

Welcome

Did you come to rescue me? I can't understand a word the people who dwell in this sector of the forum speak.
