Default Anaheim Scientific pH Meter (P771)

Just got my new pH meter today. An Anaheim Scientific pH meter (P771). It was kind of a snap decision, but it looks great and came with storage, and calibration buffer solutions. $69 from Digi-Key (+8$ overnight shipping):

It has automatic temperature compensation, but only up to 50C (122F). So the Phep 5 goes a little higher, but I figure you gotta cool it down anyway, might a well go an extra 10C and save myself $45 (once you include storage and buffers). Replacement electrodes are only $29 too, vs $69 for the phep.

I calibrated it no problem and I'll let you all know how it works on my next brew!

PS. For those not aware of digikey, it's an absolutely massive electronic components supplier, our company orders stuff from them at least once a week. They have stellar return policies and an excellent reputation.

On Tap:
Oatmeal Stout
American Pale Ale
American Amber Ale
Scottish 60 Schilling
Cherry Blond Ale

In the Carboy:
Irish Red Ale
Lagunitas IPA Clone
Obsidian Stout Clone
American Pale Wheat

The main concern with inexpensive meters like this one is their stability. Be sure to do the stability check (Step 11b) at

This unit is interesting in that it does analog calibration but has ATC. Wonder how they do that.

Be sure to familiarize yourself with the meter before brew day. Calibrate it and meaure the pH of common household things like milk, soda, lemon juice, beer, baking soda solution, your tap water....

Be sure to rinse with DI water and shake/blot between measurements as directed in
