Default Extract - Jades Black Knight

Recipe Type: Extract

Recipe Type: Extract
Yeast: Safale US-05
Yeast Starter: None
Batch Size (Gallons): 5
Original Gravity: 1.067
Final Gravity: 1.017
IBU: 30's
Boiling Time (Minutes): 60
Color: 34-ish
Primary Fermentation (# of Days & Temp): 14
Secondary Fermentation (# of Days & Temp): 7
Tasting Notes: Very dark and Smokey with a hint of cherry, finishes smooth like a piece of chocolate would

Extract
7lbs Dark Liquid Extract

Seeping Grains
0.75 lbs Cherrywood Smoked
1.00 lbs FB Kiln Black
0.50 lbs Carapils

Hops
1.1 oz Bullion @ 60 Minutes
1.1 oz Hallertau @ 30 Minutes
1.1 oz Hallertau @ 7 Minutes

This beer could have used a bit more bottle time than i gave it. I would shoot for al least 3 weeks bottle time and you should have a tasty dark smokey beer. The head of the beer is a dark almond color and is quite appeasing to the eye.

For me the beer came out VERY dark (in the 30's range) but the calculator i used put it in the 12-13 range. I also believe the calculator put the IBU in the 34 range.

(not the best photo, but you get the point)

that looks and sounds really good. Either my next batch or the one after that (or both at the same time) will be a porter and I have been looking for a good extract recipe. I think I may try this one.

Use a blow off tube instead of a air lock, when the safale starts fermenting, its a workhorse.

Let me know how it turns out!
