Default Yeast substitute

I am looking at making a blonde ale. The recipe calls for WLP051 but I would like to use WLP001 (since I already have some harvested). Does anyone see that as being a problem? They both say they are California Ale yeast, so I figured they would be very similar. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys (and girls) .

I'm sure if you go to White Lab's website they will tell you the differences

From White Labs' site:

WLP051 California Ale V Yeast
From Northern California. This strain is more fruity than WLP001, and slightly more flocculent. Attenuation is lower, resulting in a fuller bodied beer than with WLP001.

According to Mr Malty's yeast strain chart, the WLP001 is from Sierra Nevada and the WLP051 is from Anchor Liberty. The WLP051 should be fruitier (unless fermented cool) and more flocculent.

I'd Bet the 001 will be fine and dandy. Mostly in a blond, you just want a nice clean fermenter.

That's not being cheap! Cali ale yeast will work just fine for a blonde.

Cheap skate! Hell, in my blonde i used notty and it was what i wanted; neutral, subdued yeast flavor.
