Default Yeast lasts a really, REALLY Long Time

45+ million years to be more exact. Caught in amber and then brewed.

Ancient yeast reborn in modern beer (ABC News in Science)

That is so awesome! I wonder what commercial yeast it most closely resembles.

That blows my mind. I was really interested in paleontology while growing up, so that story was right up my alley. What I would give to get my hands on one of those beers so I could try to culture the yeast

So you are saying that my 6 month old washed yeast is probably still good then...
I can see the thread now... Instead of freezing your yeast strains, let a weevil eat them, then dunk the bug in resin, and store on your shelf. Good for 45 million years or more!

So...Are these beers bottle conditioned or filtered???

A little ancient yeast harvesting perhaps?

They way he talks about it, I'm almost certain they filter out the brewing yeast. He seems to understand that he has possession of something unique, I doubt the ancient yeast is in the bottles.

I also think it would be awesome to get some of this yeast

Probably not nearly as good as the yeast we have today that is bred for brewing, but interesting none the less.
