Default Wyeast Irish Ale...weird.

I have built up my starter of this twice, first with a quart and second with 2 quarts, both with amber DME and the fermentation is not what I expected. It was very active but it no krausen, almost like Monchet yeast when doing Apfelwein. Is this normal for this type of yeast?

I would not worry, I do not know the scientific reason, but krausen in a starter is far from common.
