Default What makes Red Stripe taste greasy?

Hi. Love the forum. I'm a beginning brewer with a long-standing beer question, and I can't think of a better forum to ask.

To me, Red Stripe tastes kind of greasy. Has anyone else noticed this? Is there a specific name for this characteristic in beer? I've tasted a few beers, and I've only run across this specific characteristic in Red Stripe. I'm not saying I want to replicate it necessarily, but I am very beer-curious.

Maybe diacetyl? That can give a slickness like artificial butter. I haven't had red strip in a long time so I couldn't say for sure.

A lot of the macrobrew lagers incorporate "faults" into their flavor profile, like Bud and acetaldehyde. DMS is another example found in lots of lagers. So it's possible Red Stripe is actually trying to taste greasy.

Really? So Corona's skunkiness being deliberate isn't an urban legend? Do they do that to be unique or to make the production easier?

it's a byproduct of clear bottles. i wouldn't call it intentional, i would call it a conscious disregard of product quality.

also, welcome mrmalty, you kind of picked an ambitious username, sort of like using the #23 in basketball or something

Was there already a great poster named MrMalty? Sorry. I can change if necessary. When I was registering, I was just obsessed with the super-maltiness of Spaten Optimator Doppelbock. I didn't mean to mess with anyone's memory of a fallen soldier.

Not quite. They refer to Mr Malty's Yeast Calculator

Learn more hither.

Naming yourself MrMalty is along the lines of naming yourself MJackson or something like that
