Vanilla Stout
So I have a stout that is almost done fermenting ... I was wondering ... Could I add some Vanilla extract when I keg it to give it some vanilla flavor? If so how much would you add to a 5g batch?

(I know most folks add two beans to secoundary - but I thought about this after the fact)

I would try a tablespoon, then taste it. If that's not enough add another. Don't think I'd go above 2.

Do I need to heat the extract to santize it before adding?

Extract is generally an alcohol solution. I don't think you'd need or want to heat it

Anywhere from 3 to 6 tbs would work depending on your taste. Use an eyedropper or pippet in a twelve ounce sample and find out your taste. Assuming a drop is one mL than use this conversion(I have done the math)

1.5mL in 12 oz. = 3 tablespoons in five gallons
3 mL in 12 oz = 6 tablespoons in five gallons

Or you can keep the extract right at your bar and have your choice of a plain stout or a vanilla one.

Make sure the extrac IS alcohol or water based, as tuoply suggested, and NOT oil based.
