Too Hoppy!

I have a 2.5 gal batch that is coming across very strong on the hops. I am not a fan of a strong hops flavor so I was wondering... could I make another 2.5 gal batch without hops and combine the two? I was thinking about rehydrating the malt extract and just dropping it as wort into the "hoppy" batch to make a 5 gal batch and just let the yeast in the first batch do the work.
Has anyone else done this and does it work?
