Default thoughts on red ipa recipe

I'm looking to make a simple reddish ipa and came up with this..

13lbs pale malt
4oz roasted barley

.5oz galena fwh
2oz fuggle 20min
1oz fuggle 10min
1oz fuggle fo
.5oz galena fo

mash at 148 for 60 min
pitch US-04

what are the experts thoughts on this one?

The roasted barley here is just for color. If you swap it out for amber malt or crystal 60 you'll get the color and some flavor as well.

This looks a lot like a big English bitter. Is that what you're going for?

So this is going for more of an Red English IPA judging from the hops used? What about swapping out pale malt for marris otter to give it more of the English character.

My local brew shop don't have any marris otter.. I wanted to try to make a hoppy beer with a very simple grain bill and i have never used roasted barley before so i figured what the heck. i want to stay away from crystal malts for a few brews and see the results

If the roasted barley is just for color (I assume it is), you might try Carafa III instead. It will give you the color with less flavor contributions than roasted barley.

Cheers.
