Default Thoughts about a recipe idea

So, I want to make a dark beer, but not a porter or stout. Anyway, I mostly just wanted to do something simple but different and I thought some of you could give me some opinions on a recipe I thought about making. Here it is.

10lbs Munich
.5lbs black patent
1oz mt hood 60mins
1oz crystal 10-15 mins

German ale yeast

What do you think this will taste like?

Like a porter. Black patent is harshly burnt and acrid, and comes across as a strong roast, but not like roasted barley (stout).

I was hoping that using Munich as a base malt might make it a little different from what I normally think of as a porter. Do you think it would make much of a difference?

Okay, after poking around a little bit, I think if I switched the black patent out with carafa I could make a some sort of psuedo schwarz. What do you think?

Yes, but I would still use some crystal malt or something to balance the roastiness of the carafa I. Not much, maybe 1/2 pound, but something to give it body, some residual sweetness, and balance. I"ve never used carafa I, only II and III, so maybe it isn't quite the same in the amount of roast and you don't strictly need the crystal. (I still like it, though!)

I think my LHBS had carafa II. I was hoping the munich would give it a little sweetness, that's why I wasn't planning on using any crystal malt. I guess a little wouldn't hurt, maybe some 40l or 60l.

I've never used carafa II. How much is too much?
