Yes, but I would still use some crystal malt or something to balance the roastiness of the carafa I. Not much, maybe 1/2 pound, but something to give it body, some residual sweetness, and balance. I"ve never used carafa I, only II and III, so maybe it isn't quite the same in the amount of roast and you don't strictly need the crystal. (I still like it, though!)
