10 Gallon batch brewed yesterday. It's our version of a lawnmower. It's a light blonde called The Summer Heatbeater.

60 Minute Boil
151 degree Mash

- 16 lbs. 2 Row
- 1 lb. Carapils

1.75 oz. Cascade - 60 minutes
0.5 oz. Willamette - 5 minutes

WLP001 Yeast, No Starter - I pitched 6 vials --

Damn that's a lot of yeast for such a low-gravity-summer-brewski. Take off like a rocket?

Yep, 3 vials in each 5 gallon carboy. I wanted this one to get after it and it is!

Just as heads up, ole beersmith says you need 303 billion cells for your ten gallons of yeast. each vial has 90-100 billion cells or so. Soo...next time if you want to save some money I think 1.5-2 vials (per carboy) would certainly do the trick.

Totally unsolicited advice, just repeating what my fancy pants software says.

I understand and I use Beersmith. I also look at Mr. Malty and refer to a lot of Jamil's intel. Long story short, it's reallllllly hard to overpitch yeast. It can be done, but not likely. I knew I needed at least 2 vials per carboy so I figured 3 would rock! And it has.... So really all I did was maybe waste a little money. Oh well, vigorous fermentation is good enough to set up a lawn chair with a cold beer and watch for awhile!
