Suggestions for Chinook Harvest
|
|
So i have a Sh*t ton of Chinook this year from my hop harvest. Havent dried them all yet, but i'm looking at maybe a pound off my second year bines.
Anywho, I've made pales and IPA with 'em before and while i dig em, i cant help but wonder if a darker beer, maybe a brown ale or a porter might not better compliment the flavor of these hops.
I checked the recipe section, did the Google search, etc. but dint find any specific recipes which moved me.
Anybody have a recipe? Failing that, can anyone help me build an extract recipe with steeped grains and what not? Thus far my own recipes have been rather simple (ie Some crystal 10 or 20, extract, hops...) but I'm looking to experiment
Any suggestions, musings or insults welcome

I happen to have a couple bottles of my last IPA stioll handy and god knows I'll be brewing one soon (maybe tomorrow).
But i like the idea of the RIS, never made one before but love the beer. Can anyone suggest some steeping grains, I've seen a number of recipes and wonder whats worked for those who've brewed them?

I like Chinook as a bittering hop for stouts. Here's an extract recipe for a Sweet Stout. Add the lactose towards the end of the boil. This is for a 5 gallon batch.
5.00 lb Light Dry Extract (8.0 SRM) Dry Extract 60.61 %
1.00 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt - 60L (60.0 SRM) Grain 12.12 %
0.75 lb Roasted Barley (300.0 SRM) Grain 9.09 %
0.50 lb Chocolate Malt (350.0 SRM) Grain 6.06 %
0.75 oz Chinook [13.00 %] (60 min) Hops 34.8 IBU
1.00 lb Milk Sugar (Lactose) (0.0 SRM) Sugar 12.12 %
1 Pkgs Windsor (Danstar) Yeast-Ale
Est Original Gravity: 1.053 SG
Est Final Gravity: 1.017 SG
Estimated Alcohol by Vol: 4.61 %
Bitterness: 34.8 IBU
Est Color: 35.1 SRM

I like the looks of that. I have many of the ingredients and would only need to pick up a few. Pappers, i see your in oak lawn, where do you get your ingredients? I grew up, and my folks still live in, Alsip, not much in the way of home brew shops out where i'm at now...

Hi. There's a good lhbs near Alsip - Bev Art on Western between 100th and 101st in the Beverly neighborhood. Small and friendly and they have a good selection, usually.
