Default stout recipe problem

I made a stout that turned out great. This is the recipe:
Quote:
================================================== ========
Batch Size: 20.927 L
Boil Size: 22.766 L
Boil Time: 0.000 s
Efficiency: 70%
OG: 1.057
FG: 1.014
ABV: 5.5%
Bitterness: 24.5 IBUs (Tinseth)
Color: 54 SRM (Mosher)

Fermentables
================================================== ========
Name Type Amount Mashed Late Yield Color
Barley, Flaked Grain 500.000 g Yes No 70% 2 L
Black (Patent) Malt Grain 500.000 g Yes No 55% 500 L
Pale Malt (2 Row) UK Grain 4.500 kg Yes No 78% 3 L
Roasted Barley Grain 500.000 g Yes No 55% 300 L

Hops
================================================== ========
Name Alpha Amount Use Time IBU
Target 13.5% 15.000 g Boil 1.000 hr 21.6
Target 13.5% 10.000 g Boil 5.000 min 2.9

Misc
================================================== ========
Name Type Use Amount Time
Irish Moss Fining Boil 4.929 mL 15.000 min

Yeast
================================================== ========
Name Type Form Amount Stage
Safale S-04 Ale Dry 11.000 g Primary

Mash
================================================== ========
Name Type Amount Target Time
Single Infusion 15.899 L 67.000 C 1.000 hr
Batch Sparge Infusion 14.377 L 74.000 C 15.000 min
now, I would like to repeat this more than once but currently I have only 500 grams of black patent malt.

If I cut it in half, would it make a big difference? So I would make two batches with same ingredients, but only cutting in half black patent malt.

So, 250 grams per batch.

What do you think?

Sorry for metric units....

I think it will be just fine. The black patent sometimes gives a really sharp malt bitterness that I'm not really into. Cutting it in half may make it a bit smoother. 500 grams is roughly one pound so you'll end up with 1 lb of roasted and 1/2 lb of black patent. Almost sounds like a better recipe to me.

Why don't you jut brew it once and while it's fermenting, order some more?

500g seems like a lot to me - my choc stout recipe which is very black uses only 100g but if it works then why change?

Metric is the way to go. If math is universal, then metric is the language.

Yeah, metric is way easier, actually. If you're not used to it, it's just not being used to it that's the problem. Grams are certainly better for measuring hops. Would you rather read "9 grams" or ".3175 oz"? And it's easier for starters. 200 g DME, 2 l water. Nice and simple.
