Default Spelt, Flaked, or whole berry

Anyone know where to find spelt in bulk that isn't $3-$4/lb and having to pay silly shipping charges on top of the high price?

I just made a recipe with spelt and like the results so far, but at $4 a pound at a hippy food store I won't be doing that often.

I would consider under $2/lb to be reasonable but this stuff must be grown on very few farms around the country. The few that do seem to be demanding top dollar or the wholesome food retailers are raping everyone.

I know a couple guys that work at a grain mill and I could ask them. I doubt they have any access to spelt though as I think it's primarily a wheat flour mill.

Spelt is a type of wheat, but it's still unlikely.

The discount bulk-food store chain around here (the kind with big bins of everything, where you bag what you and pay by weight) carries spelt flakes, so I'd recommend that if you have one near you.

Well I just remembered that the Farmhouse Ales book listed a source for spelt. They have reasonably priced grain at just over $1.22/lb. I don't have anyone around me that has spelt anything in bulk food bins. Even after shipping it comes out less than $2/lb. I want to start making more beers using spelt as a replacement for wheat to see how it acts. I'm interested in doing a witbier with spelt instead of wheat. It's not a far stretch since it is an ancestor to wheat.

I've only used it once and ordered from here. Shipping was $5 for a couple pounds.
