Kahler, did you get around to brewing your recipe? I'll be interested to see how you like it.

I've been doing some homework on this clone recipe and I came across the Basic Brewing Radio podcast from October 23, 2008 where they interview the head brewer at Odell Brewing Company:
http://www.basicbrewing.com/index.php?page=basic-brewing-radio-2008
Scroll down to find the Oct 23 episode. In the middle of their conversation with Odell's brewer they bring up the IPA. The brewer implies they use just perle and chinook in the boil. The flavor and aroma additions must be in the whirlpool and the hop back. Also, next time I brew I'll move the amarillo to later in the boil...like maybe 5 min. And I'll use some ESB malt in the grist. Odell mentioned that they boil for 90 minutes. Depending on how much LP is left in your tank, that may be worth trying too.

Happy brewing!

Hey Kult,
Yes, I did...bottled about a week and a half ago. Going to pop one on monday to check it out- I'll let you know the results. The aroma when going into secondary was good, and the aroma during the bottle process was amazing, i hope it stuck. Color was a little dark, and a bit more bitter than i wanted but i think that will settle down in the bottle.

thanks for the link! i will check it out---after work.

Kahler, I'd be interested to hear your tasting notes.

I re-brewed this beer with Chinook bittering hops at 75min and I moved the Amarillo from the boil to a dry hop addition. It tasted much more like Odell's IPA when I racked it to the keg than my previous batches ever have. Can't wait for it to carbonate! I can tell it's not gonna last long.

Sorry for the delay, i didnt see that you had replied.
Yes, i brewed it. It turned out really good, but not an Odell. Next time i will reduce the Carafoam, and move my hop times around a little. I will try out your recipe as well.

The aroma was great! i thought it came out slightly more bitter than the odell, and had a little too much malt in the background. i want to move the carafoam because it came out extremely "foamy", i will also reduce the priming sugar by .5 oz.

I aso noticed that youre in St. Paul....i might be coming out ther in aug/sept for the fair. Maybe we can swap bottles.

Kahler,
Definitely let me know if you're gonna be in town for the Great Minnesota Get Together. I'd love to trade some beers, or just drink some with you if transporting your beers proves too cumbersome. I'll try and have an Odell IPA clone for you to try. PM me and we can make plans :-)
