Default Nugget hops

So I found a guy that has a few nugget hop vines growing in my area. He dried them and will sell them for $10 per pound. I'm still fairly noobish and have never used nugget before. For the price I figure I can't go wrong. No idea of AA% but I'll bet I could do a nice IPA or something. Any recipe ideas?

An all Nuggett IPA work fine. Figure 13% AA and aim for the middle of the IBU range & you should be fine.

Poobah, how do you get an IBU rating of 136.3?

I was listening to brewing radio the other day and I'm pretty sure I heard John Palmer say that you couldn't get more than 100 IBUs into a beer.

Am I mistaken, or misinformed? Or is it just a technical error in the software?

Just curious......

You can get 136 IBU's. He claims you can't taste anything over 100...

It's a theoretical IBU rating. They're always much higher than what is actually in the beer.

No, the 100 IBU barrier is real. The isomerization process stops at that point. None of the popular calculators use the correct curves for efficiency; just approximations.

You can get above 100 IBU by boiling down a large volume of water, boiling your hops under pressure, or using steam extraction.
